Don Williams didn't get out of the third inning but the ULM Warhawks didn't need him to as they exploded for 21 hits in a dominating 17-8 victory over the Demons from Northwestern State. ULM was able to keep to the game plan and get several pitchers some action tonight going into this weekends final SBC series.
Ben Soignier had another big night with four more hits and three more RBI's. Ben now has 59 runs batted in on the season. Wade, Jordy Poche, and Boomer Blanchard each scored three runs a piece. Blanchard has a team leading 62 runs scored and a team high 76 base hits. Of the four stolen bases by the Warhawks, Blanchard collected three.
Daniel McHenry came on in relief of Justin Anderson who had relieved Williams to pick up the victory, his first of the season.
The Demons tried to get a rally going in the bottom of the 8th inning as they loaded the bases with nobody out. McHenry walked the first batter and then gave up a double. Corey Brown relieved Daniel and hit the first batter he faced loading the bases. Brown would then walk Dan Meyer on four pitches to give the Demons their 8th run of the night.
Brown would get Chase Lyles to strike out and then get Justin O'Neal to ground into the unusual 3-2 (first base to catcher) double play to end the inning.
ULM will now travel to Troy Alabama to take on the Trojans in a critical three game series that will determine the Warhawks seeding in the SBC Tournament.
