Softball: Cajuns Take Out Warhawks

The Warhawks made early headlines when they knocked off the #1 seed Louisiana-Lafayette in the first round of the SBC tournament but it would be those same Cajuns that would return the favor in an elimination game Friday morning in Denton, Tx.

ULM jumped out to a 1-0 led in the top of the first when first team All SBC lead off hitter Brianna Love tripled and then stole home.

That lead however would be short lived as the Cajuns came out firing in the bottom of the second. ULL sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on seven hits and took advantage of a Warhawk throwing error.

The two teams would each threaten to score the next couple of innings but both left runners stranded on base. ULM singled twice in the top of the 2nd inning but both times was throw out trying to steal second base.

In the top of the 3rd the Warhawks got walks from Love and Kandace Causey but again were unable to push any runs across. ULL went down in order in the bottom half leaving the score 7-1 Cajuns.

The Warhawks would threaten yet again in the top of the 4th but like the previous innings, two runners would be stranded on base. ULL would go down in order for the second consecutive inning but still held a comfortable 7-1 lead.

ULL would get two more runs in the bottom of the sixth when Codi Runyan doubled to center field and extending the lead to 9-1. That would be the final score.

ULM finished with one run on five hits and committed one error. The Cajuns got nine runs on 12 hits and committed one error. Kandace Causey took the loss for ULM while Brittany Cuevas for ULL picked up the win. Cuevas struck out 12 and walked two.
