Warhawks Rally To Stay Alive!

Down 6-0 and dead in the water after three innings played, the Warhawks rallied to outscore South Alabama 13-2 in the final six innings to take a 13-8 victory Thursday afternoon to keep their season alive.

Nick Wade, Matt Collins, and Perry Smith each recorded three hits a piece and led a huge comeback that saw the Warhawks rally from six runs down to take a 13-8 victory over South Alabama.

Down 6-0 after three, ULM batted around in the top of the fourth inning and posted a five spot on just three hits. ULM was able to make the Jaguars pay for three hit batsmen in the innings with timely hits to drive the runs across. Perry Smith put the final touches on the inning with a big 2 run double to left field scoring Nick Wade and Ryan McMillan. The Warhawks scored four of the five runs with clutch 2 out hits.

In the top of the fifth inning the Warhawks would strike for three more. Matt Collins launched a two run homer scoring Ben Soignier who had doubled one batter earlier. Nick Wade again came up clutch by driving home Matt Laird who had singled and stole second.

In the top of the 6th ULM again would ride another long ball and put three more runs on the scoreboard. This time senior Jon Prevost who sent a 2 run shot to right field that plated Perry Smith. The Warhawks took an 11-7 lead going into the bottom half of the inning. USA would get their final run of the game as they were held scoreless in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings.

Justin Anderson started for ULM but had a rough go at it. Anderson lasted just 2.1 innings giving up five runs on seven hits. Senior Drew Graham was able to take over and hold the fort down for the next 4.1 innings. Drew allowed just two earned runs on six hits and struck out 5 Jaguars in the process.

Senior Ben Soignier was called on in the ninth to seal the deal and he did that by striking out Derek O'Reilly and Nathaniel Lami to end the game.
