--I asked running backs coach Bob Leahy about promising freshman Isaiah Newsome today. He said Newsome compares favorably to former ULM star Kevin Payne, who started his career as a running back. Newsome is straight-line speedster with power.

--Although it didn't escalate into a physical incident, safety Greg James and receiver Darrell McNeal were chippy with each other all morning. James and McNeal are friends, but the conversation was hardly friendly.

--Starting running back Frank Goodin (hamstring) has been limited in camp, but did practice on Monday. Offensive tackle Doug Stroud (back) has also been limited and spent much of the session stretching as his line mates did drills. Both players are apparently improving health wise.

--Center Emmanuel Lockett is still awaiting medical test results after injuring his knee last week. Lockett was limping around the practice field.

--Safety Cameron Blakes, the Ouachita product, saw reps with the second team.
