It was a night many ULM football players will always remember as they posted a 58-0 shut out of visiting Texas Southern. You have to go back to October 26th, 2002 for the last time ULM put up 50 points in a contest as they beat Utah State 51-48 in double overtime.
Putting up playstation like numbers, the Warhawks had a record setting night with almost 600 yards of offense(592).
Pitching a shut out for the first time since a 35-0 victory over FIU on November 11, 2006, the Warhawks gave up just 6 yards rushing to the Tigers. Texas Southern finished the contest with just 103 total yards and nine first downs.
The Warhawks got the scoring going early when Trey Revell pitched out to Luther Ambrose and he scooted 16 yards for the touchdown. Frank Goodin and Rodney Lovett each scored rushing touchdowns in the first quarter as the Warhawks built a 21-0 lead.
Goodin wasn't finished though, he would scored two more times before the half. The junior from West Monroe rushed the ball 16 times picking up 105 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Perhaps the nights most dominating performance came from the strong arm of quarterback Trey Revell. The junior from Florida was nearly flawless completing 17/19 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns.
Revell set two ULM records on the night in the process. 15 straight completions dating back to the Texas game as well as completing 89.5% of his passes are both new ULM records.
Not far behind Revell's heroics was true freshman running back Isaiah Newsome. Newsome rushed the ball 22 times for 158 yards. He looked as if he would score his first touchdown in the 3rd quarter but the 12th man (mother nature) took his feet out from under him. Newsome will hear it from his teammates about that but what a debut for the frosh.
Aaron Morgan was again dominating picking up two more sacks on the season pushing his total to three. The 6'5 245 pounder also caused a fumble in the contest and was constantly in the backfield all night long.
Darrell McNeal lead the Warhawk receiving corps with 99 yards on six catches and one heck of a touchdown grab with two defenders draped on him. Big LaGregory Sapp finished the contest with 67 yards on two catches, both on post patterns.
Luther Ambrose continues to be a threat to score every time he touches it. The sophomore rushed for 31 yards on three carries and caught 2 passes for 27 yards. On the season Ambrose has nine offensive touches and scored on two of those. He is averaging 17 yards every time he touches the football on offense.
ULM will travel to Tempe Arizona next weekend for a big matchup against the Arizona State Sun Devils. Warhawk Nation will be there to bring you all the action.
