The ULM baseball program landed a big bat with pro potential with a commitment from Chipola (Fla.) College outfielder/first baseman Joey Rapp.

"I like how they ran the team and the relationship they have with players," Rapp said in confirming his pledge. "Basically, everything about it."

Rapp hit .360 with 12 home runs for Chipola last year, which led to his selection in the 41st round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. "That gave me a lot of confidence," Rapp said. "I've got high hopes for my career. I'll do whatever it takes to get to the next level."

The strapping 6-3, 220-pounder earned a spot on the Coaches' All-Panhandle Conference Baseball Team as a freshman. He graduated from Sarasota High School in Sarasota, Fla. He helped his high school team to the 2007 6A State Championship and following the 2008 season was named to the FACA All-Star Game in Sebring, Fla.

Rapp, who throws and hits from the right side, said he drew recruiting interest from Florida International, UCF and Lynn University.

ULM's list of confirmed baseball pledges includes Northwest Shoals Community College catcher Caleb Knox, Olney (Ill.) Central College shortstop Jeremy Sy, LSU-Eunice outfielder Les Aulds, Angelina (Texas) College left-hander Kendall Thamm, John A Logan College right-hander Cale Wine and Bossier Parish Community College pitcher/first baseman Randy Zeigler.
