The start of college baseball season brings a reshuffled squad and lineup for ULM.
The Warhawks return with an interesting blend of familiar players and intriguing newcomers for the 2010 campaign.
Going into the season-opening series at Ole Miss beginning on Friday, here's a tentative lineup and starting pitching rotation for the Warhawks.THE ORDER
SS Boomer Blanchard, Sr.: Moves to SS from 2B. Hit .351 with 12 home runs, 10 doubles and 11 stolen bases in his first season at ULM after transferring from LSU-Eunice. Tallied 87 hits and scored 71 runs.
2B Caleb Clowers, Soph: West Monroe product arrives via the LSU-Eunice pipeline. Part of NJCAA World Series team, Clowers batted .360 with 14 doubles, three triples, a pair of home runs and 54 RBIs. Was 14-of-14 on stolen bases.
3B Nick Wade, Sr.: West Monroe product hit 342 with 12 doubles, 36 RBIs and nine home runs. A starter in each of his first three seasons at ULM.
CF Matt Laird, Sr.: OCS product entering fourth year as a starter. Drove in 55 runs. Hit safely in 49-of-58 games started on the season and reached base safely in 55-of-58 games.
1B Josh Chappell, Sr.: Hit .305 in platoon role as a junior in 2008. Missed 2009 season after injury in opener. Granted medical hardship.
DH Jordy Poche, Jr.: Hit. 365 in 178 at-bats while making 12 starts as a pitcher. Nursing a sore shoulder in preseason but should also contribute on the mound.
LF Kelvin York, Jr.: Started 16 games last year while hitting .268 as one of the top reserves. Enjoyed a strong fall campaign.
C Jarrett Hammond, Jr: Hit 412 with 13 doubles, two home runs and 39 RBIs at Bossier Parish Community College, where he also pitched. Thrust into the starting catcher role after Chris Sinclair transferred.
RF Perry Smith, Sr: Neville and LSU-Eunice product hit .365 with 13 doubles, five home runs and 34 RBIs. Hit .400 in Sun Belt games and .522 with six doubles in the Sun Belt Tournament.
RHP Drew Granier, Jr.: Transfer from Mississippi Gulf Coast CC was 8-3 last year with a 3.71 ERA and 58 Ks in 63 IP.
RHP Josh Miller, Sr.: Went 1-2 with a 6.64 ERA and one save while primarily providing relief. Made memorable outing against Middle Tennessee in the Sun Belt Tournament title game, allowing just two hits and fanning two while not allowing a run in 4.1 innings.RHP Corey Brown, Sr.: 4-2 with 3.46 ER, lowest among returning pitchers for ULM. Brown appeared in 17 games with one start on the season. In the Sun Belt Tournament elimination game against regular season co-champion Western Kentucky, Brown allowed two runs on six hits over 7.1 innings to lead ULM to a 4-2 win and a berth in the SBC Tournament Championship Game.
