ULM assistants have an organized game plan with spring recruiting now underway.
Recruiting coordinator Bryan Applewhite has deployed coaches all over ULM's footprint seeking the next wave of prospects.
The manhunt starts close to home, where each assistant has been assigned schools in the Monroe area. This should allow those coaches to keep closer tabs on prospects and build relationships quickly.
Beyond those core schools, ULM will recruit statewide in Louisiana while mining Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Regarding the push into Oklahoma, Applewhite said: "Oklahoma is a natural fit. Coach (Todd) Berry is from there. Coach (Steve) Farmer is from there and Coach (Vance) Vice is from there. I recruited there for six years and lived there half the year for six years. We've got a lot of strong ties there. As a staff, we all agree that Oklahoma is an under-recruited state. That's better for us."
Once offers go out, early pledges are welcome too, Applewhite said.
"Any time you can get an early commitment is great," Applewhite said. "We want to get the early notoriety and exposure. Early commitments will come. But the sooner we can get our name out and advertise ULM and Monroe, the better off we'll be."
