Downs takes in Tech/Navy

Bastrop center Earl Ross Downs was one of the senior prospects in attendance Saturday evening for the Louisiana Tech/Navy game. Find out his reaction and hear his thoughts on Bastrop's 3-0 start to the 2010 season.

"Louisiana Tech really played well in the first half against Navy," said Bastrop's Earl Ross Downs, who watched the action live in Ruston Saturday night. "The atmosphere at Tech is better than I've seen it before this year and the new facilities are really nice."

The senior center, who has several scholarship offers, has previously mentioned Tech as one of his favorite schools. His offer sheet remains somewhat of a mystery, since Bastrop head coach Brad Bradshaw prefers for his players not to publicly disclose which schools have extended scholarship offers.

Downs and the Rams are undefeated (3-0) and ranked near the top of the Class 4A polls entering this week's collison with 3-0 Block, which is ranked No. 1 in Class A, according to one media outlet.

"We have practice at 3 P.M. today," Downs said on early Sunday afternoon. "We'll run some wind sprints to work out the soreness and watch film of our game and film of Block.

"Our first game was a 74-8 win over Arcadia and the next week we scored 36 points on Richwood, even though we really didn't execute that well.

"We had 52 points on Rayville by halftime Friday night and - believe it or not - they have a good defense, with Gerrand Johnson (ULM commit). They're huge.

"We just ran the ball well and threw some good passes. I don't know how many first downs Rayville had, but it wasn't much.

"I went head-up with Johnson the entire night and I had four pancakes. I felt like I played really well. I graded out at 90% against Arcadia, but I haven't gotten any more feedback on grades since then.

"We just need to keep protecting our quarterback, because we can score points on anybody. Our offensive line needs to come off the ball and put people on the ground, and our defense will do its job."
