East St. John & Borne are 8-0

There's only a few 5A programs in Louisiana that remain undefeated and two of them - East St. John and Dutchtown - will meet next week in Reserve. What's the latest on East St. John's season? Who is recruiting the Wildcats' prize junior defensive tackle Gerron Borne? Find out here.

It's been a hectic end to the work week for 8-0 East St. John and junior defensive tackle Gerron Borne, as the Wildcats underwent a change at head coach on Friday. However, the team didn't miss a beat last night, jumping on Destrehan early in a 49-14 win.

"It feels good, but we want to be 15-0 at the end of the season," said Borne. "We want to win it for Coach (Larry) Dauterive (who resigned on Friday). He has a lot of support from the players - he really does.

"We still have love for him. There was a lot of importance in regard to the game last night. There were news crews from several TV stations at the game and we played hard. We're coming along as a team."

Only six 5A programs (West Monroe, East St. John, Dutchtown, Terrebonne, St. Paul's, and St. Thomas More) remain undefeated and one of those will get axed off the list when Dutchtown travels to East St. John next week.

"We're happy to get that game at home," said Borne. "We're going to spend this week getting prepared for their running back, Effrem Reed. He has the speed to make big plays.

"We hope to shut down their quarterback, (Tulane commit) Leon Blouin, and their running game. They have a good team and also play very good defense."

Which colleges are focusing heavy attention on Borne?

"Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Alabama are three of the schools that I like," he said. "I really like Tennessee defensive line coach Chuck Smith. Texas A&M and Bama are showing a lot of love. I haven't heard anything from LSU since the summer.

"I'm going to watch Alabama play LSU in two weeks."
