Class A Playoff Predictions, Part I

No. 12 Southern Lab is in action tonight in the first-round of the Class A playoffs against District 6-A rival No. 21 Kentwood. Last week, Lab and OL/DL Ezekiel Alsander, who has an offer from Louisiana Tech, lost to the Kangaroos. Who wins the rematch?

NO. 32 ASCENSION EPISCOPAL (5-4) AT NO. 1 WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN (10-0) -- The top-ranked Crusaders have scored a minimum of 42 points in each of the past four weeks. Both Tyler Louviere and James Martinez rushed for 100-plus yards last Friday in WCA's 44-14 win over St. Edmund. Myles Lee scored the lone TD for Ascension Episcopal last week in a 49-7 loss to Central Catholic.

Riccie Gray
NO. 17 HAMILTON CHRISTIAN (7-3) AT NO. 16 DELHI CHARTER (7-3) -- Quarterback Cameron Meyer leads Hamilton Christian, which almost knocked off undefeated Oberlin a couple of weeks ago. 210-pound RB Riccie Gray rambled for 189 yards and a couple of scores last week for DCS, which trounced crosstown foe Delhi, 50-18. Gray has 1,408 yards on the year.

Delhi Charter, 35-28

NO. 24 VERMILION CATHOLIC (4-6) AT NO. 9 OUACHITA CHRISTIAN (7-3) -- VCHS is coming off a 62-0 rout of Hanson Memorial. Jacoby Davis rushed for three touchdowns in that game. OCS boasts one of the leading receivers in the state in Mark Laird (58-1,293), who has caught 14 scoring passes. QB Paul Michael Garner has over 2,500 yards passing for the homestanding Eagles.

Ouachita Christian, 42-14

NO. 25 CRESCENT CITY CHRISTIAN (5-5) AT NO. 8 HAYNESVILLE (8-2) -- - Metairie-based Crescent City Christian, formerly known as Crescent City Baptist, has a lengthy road trip to Haynesville, which is just a few miles from the Arkansas state line. Lance Lewis and Sam Slack are two of CCC's primary weapons on offense. Haynesville, the defending state champion, has benefited from the excellent play of QB/S DeMarcus Jackson.

NO. 28 CEDAR CREEK (5-5) AT NO. 5 ST. MARY'S (10-0) -- RB Darion Porchia reached the end zone five times for St. Mary's vs. Lakeside last month. Cedar Creek's Austin Ginn and Adam Vandenlangenberg accounted for a pair of scores in the Cougars' 63-21 loss to Ouachita Christian last Thursday. These two clubs met earlier in the season with St. Mary's winning by a 42-24 margin.

NO. 21 KENTWOOD (5-3) AT NO. 12 SOUTHERN LAB (6-4) -- Last week, Kentwood defeated Southern Lab, 18-13. RB Eugene Buckner has five straight 100-yard rushing games for the Kangeroos. The Kittens are one of the most physical teams in Class A, with OL/DL Ezekiel Alsander and LB Charles Butler both holding FBS offers.

NO. 20 ST. MARTIN'S EPISCOPAL (7-3) AT NO. 13 OAK GROVE (6-4) -- Oak Grove has been porous on defense, allowing nearly 37 points per game. However, the Tigers are also scoring aplenty (32 ppg), and Cory Wiggins and Erving Craft both know how to find the goal-line. Sophomore tailback Colin Hansen scored twice for the Saints in their 47-6 romp over Ecole Classique a couple of weeks ago.

Oak Grove, 34-20

NO. 29 FALSE RIVER (4-6) AT NO. 4 SOUTH PLAQUEMINES (7-3) -- The defending runner-up Hurricanes are the odds-on favorite to win the state title, now that four-star WR Bradley Sylve (Alabama commit) is back in the lineup after missing almost the entire 2009 season due to injury. Brad Guillory has enjoyed a stellar season for False River.
