Porter sets official visits

Northside defensive tackle Tyler Porter capped off an illustrious high school career over the weekend, and the senior plans to relax until January and then take a couple of official visits. Which lucky programs will receive a visit from Porter?

"I'm going to chill until January and then take my official visits," said Northside senior defensive tackle Tyler Porter. "I've already scheduled visits to Louisiana Tech - on January 7th - and to McNeese State for the following weekend.

"I'm going to eventually choose the school that makes me feel most at home. I love the staffs at both of those schools. They're both family-oriented staffs and you can tell that the players on their teams like being around each other."

Porter mentioned his close relationship with Louisiana Tech recruiter Stan Eggen and also stated he likes McNeese head coach Matt Viator, whom Porter described as a "player's coach."

"There's some talk that Coach Viator may be wanted at UL (after the Cajuns fired head coach Rickey Bustle), but I like Cowboy Country, regardless of who the coach will be," Porter said. "I have family at McNeese and (Northside WR) Malcolm Glaze is thinking about committing there soon.

"(Northside RB) Terrell Alfred is feeling the same way (as Glaze) and (Northside DE) Jordan Montgomery may also end up at McNeese.

"I also have family at Tech, though, and my cousin, Kenneth Batiste, is at Grambling."

Porter and Northside wrapped up another successful season over the weekend, finishing with an 11-2 mark after getting eliminated by No. 1 seed Karr in the quarterfinals.

The Vikings defeated Breaux Bridge and Parkway in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
