Semifinals: Oberlin vs. White Castle

No. 15 White Castle and LSU commit Ronald Martin are going for their 10th consecutive win tonight vs. unbeaten (13-0) Oberlin, which is seeded third in the Class A bracket. With Martin's status up in the air due a lingering injury, will the Bulldogs' season come to an end tonight vs. the Tigers and star RB Cedric Skinner?

(Class A picks through three rounds: 23-5; Overall, 107-32)

NO. 15 WHITE CASTLE (10-3) AT NO. 3 OBERLIN (13-0) -- With three-star senior Ronald Martin (LSU commit) limited last week by an ankle injury, White Castle had trouble pulling away from St. Edmund in a 15-6 quarterfinal win.

Nevertheless, the Bulldogs advanced, primarily behind an astounding night from junior running back Tyree Bracken, who gained 378 yards on 39 carries and scored both White Castle touchdowns.

Tyree Bracken
Tonight, Bracken will duke it out with another stellar back, Oberlin's Cedric Skinner.

The state's leading rusher, Skinner has an unbelievable 3,345 yards this year with 47 touchdowns.

Skinner's backfield mate, Ronkeith Alfred, has gone for 1,470 yards in Oberlin's throwback offense that usually frowns on the forward pass.

White Castle's coaching staff, in all likelihood, intently studied Oberlin's 24-22 win over Elton in the second-round. That was easily Oberlin's lowest scoring output of the season. In fact, it's the only time that the Tigers have been held under 30 points.

The lower-seeded Bulldogs may be without the services of Martin, who plays several positions: quarterback, safety, and wide receiver. Regardless, White Castle should be able to pull off what would be a mild upset in the eyes of many.

The Bulldogs' defense should be well-prepared, having faced some top prospects from larger classification schools, including Jeremy Hill and Denzeil Warner (Redemptorist); Devon Breaux and Tre Brown (Donaldsonville); and Darnell Rachal and Thomas Crouch of Riverside Academy.

None of those aforementioned schools, though, runs a similar offense to Oberlin's two-tight, Wing-T/Double Wing approach.

Can the Bulldogs solve the mystery of Cedric Skinner and the Tigers' prolific running game?

White Castle, 32-28
