'12 Intro: Romello Dixon

Romello Dixon of Archbishop Shaw lined up at nose tackle this year and -- despite being undersized at 6-1, 220-pounds -- held his own on the 5A level.

"I had a pretty good year," said Archbishop Shaw junior Romello Dixon. "I had around 40 tackles at nose guard with a couple of sacks. I run a 4.7 in the 40-yard dash, and I beat opponents with my quickness.

"I was outweighed in almost every game, and some schools - like Nicholls State - have told me that I might move to outside linebacker in college."

Which games this year were the most memorable for Dixon?

"I had good games against (Class 4A runner-up) Karr, Higgins, and (5A semifinalist) Westgate," he said. "I had a big sack and a tackle for loss in the Karr game, and a tackle for loss and a forced fumble in the Higgins game. I also thought I had a pretty good game against Westgate's center."

Which schools does Dixon favor?

"LSU is the big school that I like, but it's not looking real good for me to go there," he said. "I'm interested in any school that's interested in me. I'd like to hear from anybody.

"Louisiana Tech is a good program and they have two players from my school, Christian Lacey and Chad Boyd. I watch them and keep up with what they're doing."

Dixon said that he currently bench presses 300 pounds, squats 385, cleans 285, and inclines 265.

Shaw, which narrowly missed the playoffs this year, should make it usual appearance in the postseason again next year with the likes of DB Javis Aultman, OL Kevon Christian, DE Ryan Brown, and Dixon assuming key leadership roles.

The Eagles, due to reclassification, will move out of the 5A Catholic League and down to 4A. A few years ago, the Eagles had tremendous success in the 4A ranks.
