"I'm taking my first official visit this weekend to Louisiana Tech, and Coach (Pierre) Ingram is recruiting me for Tech. He was at my house last night. I had coaches from three schools at the house last night: Tech, Minnesota, and Southern Miss."
Which schools have offered and which programs are in the lead?
"I have offers from Arizona, Minnesota, Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa, SMU, and Louisiana Tech," said Johnson, who was named first-team all-state in the loaded and talented 4A classification. "It's between Arizona, Minnesota, SMU, and Tech."
Johnson and his O.P. Walker squad reached the Class 4A semifinals before running into eventual state champ Franklinton. The Chargers played giantslayer in the second and third rounds of the playoffs, eliminating No. 2 seed Salmen and No. 7 Bastrop.
Prior to facing O.P. Walker, Salmen and Bastrop had a combined record of 20-2.
In the Bastrop game -- a four-overtime marathon -- Johnson was the hero, making a game-saving tackle on Rams WR Jevante Watson at the goal-line to force OT.
"Our whole team had a great year and that's the result of hard work," Johnson said. "Coach Norman, who is my DBs coach, and Coach Powell - our head coach - deserve a lot of credit for my success."
Johnson is currently keeping in shape on the basketball court, where he's averaging 10 points per game.
