Recruiters won't have to worry about Brown's academics, as he maintains a 3.0 GPA and has already scored a 20 on the ACT. Despite his long arms, Brown has managed to bench press an impressive 315 pounds, and he can get around the field (4.7 speed).
"I'm receiving letters from LSU, Kansas State, Kentucky, Duke, Southern Miss, Tulane, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas, South Florida, and North Carolina State," he recited off the top of his head. "My favorites are Arkansas, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, Tulane, and Kansas State.
"Tech is pretty good and I like their system. I like the way they run stuff, and I have some buddies who play up there."
Last season, Shaw narrowly missed the playoffs for the first time in years, but don't expect that to happen again in 2011. For one thing, the Eagles are dropping back down into the Class 4A ranks, where the West Bank Catholic school enjoyed ample success over much of the past decade.
Moreover, Shaw returns a talented group of juniors, including Brown, Romello Dixon, Javis Aultman, and Kevon Beckwith. On the other hand, they'll have to find replacements for graduating standouts Lawrence Breaud (Southern commit), Chet Hebert (Southeastern Louisiana commit), and Donald Phillips.
