Vontarrius Dora Profile
Pro Football Hall of Fame Defensive End Fred Dean is one of the real legends of Louisiana Tech football. Dean, who was a four time Pro Bowl selection, recorded 15 sacks in 1983 for the San Francisco and he had 93 for his career. Dean helped lead the 49ers to Super Bowl Titles in 1982 and 1985.
Dean was on hand for Louisiana Tech's football banquet last weekend. Another defensive end, with a few nice accolades in his own right, was in town for his official visit to Louisiana Tech.
Vontarrius Dora, who helped lead West Point, Mississippi to two straight 5A titles, had ten sacks in 2010. Dora is already the same size as Fred Dean was when he was tossing around quarterbacks in the late '70s and early '80s.
Dora had 65 tackles this season as he earned first team All-State for Class 5A. His performance also helped him earn several scholarships across the Mid-South region.
"I have offers from UAB, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas State, Alcorn State, Ole Miss, and State," stated Dora. "I visit Arkansas State this weekend and I would like to visit all of them." Ole Miss is on his schedule for January 30th.
Dora enjoyed his visit to Louisiana Tech. "It went pretty good," he explained. "I've been talking to them since the summer. Coach (Rob) Likens said they really want me and Coach (Stan) Eggen likes how I am fast off the snap."
Dora's quickness helped him make plays all over the field. He has the frame to play at 250 or 260 pounds at the college level. He said he is in no hurry to make his decision.
"I'm going to wait until signing day," added Dora. "Distance doesn't matter. I just want to go to the best school. I'm looking at the atmosphere, the players, the coaches, and academics."
Louisiana Tech fans are always looking for the next Terry Bradshaw, the next Fred Dean, and the next Willie Roaf. It's almost impossible to predict what high school athletes will go on to have Pro Bowl NFL careers.
Fans of Vontarrius Dora can count one thing. The Mississippi native is sure to have a big impact at the college level. We will find out what school is lucky enough to land him in just a few short weeks.
