Dupuy signs with Miami of Ohio

Salmen cornerback Chrishawn Dupuy is headed to the MAC to play for the league champion Miami of Ohio. Get Dupuy's signing day reaction right here.

"I've enjoyed my whole day," said Chrishawn Dupuy. "We signed at 7:55 A.M. - as soon as school started. They had the whole student body there and we had a pep rally where they called us in...we got a standing ovation, and I felt like I was on top of the world.

"I was the first one to sign. Our head coach (Jerry Leonard) read a bio about me, where he mentioned things like me being a four-year starter. My whole life is going to change now. High school is out the door and college is in..."

Why did Dupuy pick the RedHawks? He had several scholarship offers and Miami underwent a coaching staff change after Mike Haywood and Lance Guidry - the two coaches who originally recruited Dupuy - departed for other jobs.

"The academics at Miami played a big part in it," said Dupuy. "Plus, they're the conference champions and they won their bowl game. It was the best offer I had...Miami isn't an up-and-coming program; they've established themselves, while a school like UL still have to prove themselves."

Dupuy led Salmen to consecutive deep runs in the Class 4A playoffs, including a semifinal berth in 2009. The Spartans defeated powerhouse John Curtis Christian during the 2010 regular season.
