Focus 2012: Ruston Pritchard

Chalmette enjoyed its best season in quite some time last year, posting a 7-4 mark and winning four of five out of the gate. A big reason for the Owls' success was OLB/DE Ruston Pritchard, who tallied seven sacks and 40 tackles through five games.

"I'm 6-foot-2, 245 pounds, and I'm still growing," said Ruston Pritchard. "I tore my ACL after the fifth game, but I had surgery in November and I'm already back running.

"My strength is pass rushing. I'm quick off the ball. I bench press 335 pounds, squat 470 to 480, and clean 315. My times in the 40-yard dash range from 4.7 to 4.8."

Pritchard's cousin, Ashton Duhe, plays for SMU.

"I like the fact that SMU has been to bowl games the past two years," he said. "They've rebuilt their program from way back. I love TCU. I also like Mississippi State and obviously LSU, since I'm from Louisiana. I also like Louisiana Tech and Texas A&M."

Pritchard's torrid start last fall enabled Chalmette to race to a 4-1 start. The Owls'only loss in that span came to old nemesis Holy Cross. With Pritchard sidelined due to injury, the Owls struggled down the stretch. The St. Bernard Parish school advanced to the first round of the Class 5A playoffs (losing to eventual state runner-up West Monroe).
