'11 Signee Spotlight: Tyler Porter

What has all-state defensive tackle Tyler Porter been up to since he signed with Louisiana Tech last month? Which fellow incoming Bulldogs does he keep in contact with? Who will be his roommate? We have all the info here.

"Anyone who has seen my Facebook status updates knows my feelings about Tech," said Northside senior DT Tyler Porter. "I'm ready to go, and it's not just 'senioritis.' I'm ready to play football. I'm kind of down because I'd like to be a December grad, so I could play in the spring.

"Jon'al White is going to have an advantage on me already, having played two years of JUCO ball. Now, he's also going to get the benefit of spring practice. I'm just going to have to work hard and show how much I want it (early playing time)."

The accolades poured in over the past two years for Porter: All-Acadiana Defensive MVP, District Defensive MVP, First-Team All-State for two consecutive years. The senior from Lafayette, Louisiana, is a natural leader, and he's been in frequent contact with a few of his future teammates.

"Levander (Liggins) and I holler at each other on Facebook, and Malcolm (Pichon) and I talk to each other through texts and Facebook," said Porter. "Malcolm and I are probably going to be rooming together. I've also talked to Vontarrius Dora, the defensive end. Bryson Abraham and I - we're cool."

Porter will report to Ruston in late June, although he's planning to make it up for the spring game. While in Ruston, he'll be keeping close tabs on his relative, Grambling State RB Kenneth Batiste.

"He's going to be the feature back next season," Porter proudly stated.

On a typical school day, Porter gets out of class at 12:10 P.M. He follows up with track practice three days a week, before heading over to his job at a local car dealership - where Porter transports and details vehicles.
