Bastrop DB drawing interest from Dawgs

Bastrop High School is always a hotbed of football talent, and the Rams have a '12 CB to watch in Kyron Thompson.

"I've heard from a couple of people that Louisiana Tech is going to offer me," said Kyron Thompson, the junior cornerback from Bastrop. "I like Tech. (Teammate) Denzel Devall told me that Texas A&M wants to see my highlight tape, so I'm going to send it to them once my coach gets the other piece added to it.

"I took a trip to LSU with Denzel a few weeks ago, and the LSU coaches talked to me."

Last year, Thompson missed the first half of the season, although he made up for it down the stretch.

"I dislocated my shoulder in the preseason scrimmage against West Monroe," he said. "After I returned to the field, I had four interceptions and 22 tackles.

"My speed is my biggest asset. I make up for a lot of things with my speed. I also have good ball skills when the ball is in the air."

Tonight, Thompson and Devall lifted the Rams to a win on the baseball diamond vs. Rayville.

"I play left field," said Thompson. "I steal a lot of bases. Every time I get on base - I steal - and I haven't been thrown out this year. Denzel (6-3, 240) even steals bases. He stole one tonight."

Thompson maintains a 3.0 GPA and is waiting on his ACT score (took the test in February). Bastrop reached the Class 4A quarterfinals last year. According to Thompson, the Rams will face West Monroe next year in a regular-season game that will draw significant statewide interest.
