Stewart Snags Second Offer

Three-star CB Tre'Von Stewart made the trip through rough weather from south-central Louisiana to Houston today, and it was well worth it, as the junior departed with his second scholarship offer.

"Houston offered today," said Tre'Von Stewart. "I liked the school a lot. It was much more than I expected. The campus is huge. The coaches told us there were just a select few people invited to this Junior Day.

"They took us on a tour through the campus, talked academics, and then we watched their spring practice. They weren't in full gear yet; just helmets."

When did Stewart, a three-star corner with a previous offer from Southern Miss, get the good news?

"Coach (Kevin) Sumlin walked up to us (Stewart and his dad) and asked how I liked it," recounted Stewart. "Then he told me that if I help them, they'll help me. My dad asked him if that was an offer and he said that's exactly what it is."

Stewart, who was surprised by the offer, welcomed the good news after his hoops team was eliminated from the Class 3A quarterfinals the preceding night by Holy Cross (New Orleans) in a nailbiter (three-point loss).

The junior, who helped lead Patterson to the state finals last year, now will turn his attention to a variety of camps and combines, beginning with the Under Armour Camp in Jacksonville.
