Another Hunter in the Monroe Area

Football fans are very familiar with the Hunter family from northeast Louisiana. Chuck Hunter and Michael Hunter are seniors who signed with TCU and Indiana, respectively, and now their first cousin, Tre Hunter, is the next superstar in the family.

"I played cornerback and free safety last year, but mainly free safety," said Richwood HS junior Tre Hunter (6-1, 173, 4.5). "I'm almost the exact same size - height and weight - as Michael."

Michael Hunter, Tre's first cousin, starred in the defensive backfield for Richwood before transferring to West Monroe for his senior season. Chuck Hunter, another first cousin to Tre, also played for West Monroe.

"Including the jamboree, I had six interceptions last year," said Tre. "I had five in the regular season and one in the jamboree. I had 41 solo tackles and 14 assists. I also recovered two fumbles, and I stripped another one and returned it for a touchdown.

"I'm hearing from Tennessee, ULL, Southeastern Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, and Southern Miss. I was supposed to go to ULL's Junior Day later this month, but I won't be able to make it because my uncle is getting married that day."

Hunter hopes to garner an offer from Indiana, TCU, and Mississippi State. Several days ago, he performed well at the Baton Rouge NUC, running a 4.61 and jumping "31 or 32 inches."

Richwood reached the second round of the Class 3A playoffs in 2010. The Rams defeated Jewel Sumner (Kentwood, La.) in the first round before losing to Redemptorist (Baton Rouge, La.) the following week.
