'13 Intro: WR Dontrell Brown

Dontrell Brown, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound sophomore from Central Catholic (Morgan City, La.), has accomplished more in two years of varsity football than most players do in their entire careers...and his best days are yet to come...

"Last year, I had 539 yards receiving with nine touchdowns," said Dontrell Brown. "I scored on two two-point conversions and had 300 yards in returns. On defense, I intercepted eight passes.

"I'm getting mail from Penn State, LSU, Oregon, Clemson, and Notre Dame. My favorites are LSU and Oregon."

Brown, just like his junior teammates Jovon Johnson and Lloyd Grogan, gets it done on both the football field and the basketball court. Central Catholic garnered the No. 3 seed in the Class A basketball playoffs this spring and ultimately advanced to the quarterfinals. Brown averaged 16 points per game for the Eagles.

As a freshman, Brown earned all-state honors on the gridiron, hauling in 59 catches for 800 yards. He scored 15 TDs, with 12 coming on receptions and three on defense.

"I like catching the ball," he said. "When I play corner (or safety), I go into receiver mode and go get the ball. I like playing receiver and that's what I want to do in college."
