McKenzie Visits Tech

Jaborian "Tip" McKenzie, the three-star junior athlete from Trinity Episcopal (Natchez, Ms.), took the short drive north (and west) to Ruston yesterday to check out Louisiana Tech. What was his reaction?

"No offer, but it went well," said Jaborian McKenzie. "I spent a whole day up there. I got a tour of the campus and met every coach.

"I got a chance to go in the special teams and running backs meetings. I also watched the team practice. From what I saw, I could start right now at several positions. I feel that I'm really high on their list, but they say they want to work me out in camp before they offer."

McKenzie currently has four scholarship offers, with his most recent coming from Vanderbilt last week. He's visiting Memphis on Wednesday, followed by Junior Day at UL on Saturday.

Last year, McKenzie led his team to a perfect 15-0 season. His head coach at Trinity Episcopal, David King, gave a glowing review of his star player.

"Tip is what happens when you combine a great athlete with a great work ethic," said King. "He has God-given speed and explosiveness to go along with a tremendous work ethic. He has great hands and vision and can quickly turn around a game.

"I've been very fortunate to have some great athletes here, but Tip is different - his raw burst is something we haven't seen before. No one is going to outwork him. I know that whenever he gets to college, he won't have a teammate who works harder than he does."
