Kelly earns Ultimate 100 invitation

Jestin Kelly, the '13 LB/RB from Redemptorist High School, traveled to Mississippi last weekend for the National Underclassmen Combine and he brought home some hardware.

"I had a great combine," said Jestin Kelly (6-0, 215), the sophomore from Redemptorist HS. "I had a way better combine than I had in Zachary (at the Baton Rouge NUC). "It was called the Jackson NUC and they held it at Pearl High School. I broad jumped 8-4 and had a 27-inch vertical.

"In the one-on-one drills, it was this linebacker from Jefferson County and me in the same linebacking corps. I was expecting the Linebacker MVP. I didn't get that, but I did get the Leadership Award. I was invited to the Ultimate 100. I'm also going to the Under Armour Combine in New Orleans next month."

What's going on at Redemptorist, where the Wolves recently greeted a new head coach in Aaron Vice?

"Our coach has a good program for us," said Kelly. "He has everything on track and is getting a lot of support from the Redemptorist alumni; he's a Redemptorist graduate.

"My grades are really good. I have a 3.3 GPA, and I'm just working to stay on top of my game. I'm going to play both linebacker and running back next year."

Redemptorist has two of the best '13 prospects in the state in Kelly and teammate Donald Gage.

"Donald is a great player," said Kelly. "He's athletic and can be used in a lot of places on the field. Last year, we needed him to defend the pass and he played cornerback. He's aggressive and really good at wide receiver. He'll be playing receiver and defense next season."
