North Mesquite QB to Tech JR Day

Louisiana Tech hosted its Junior Day this weekend, and QB King Davis (North Mesquite) was among the visitors. Find out more about the signal-caller from the DFW Metroplex.

HereComeTheDawgs.com spoke with North Mesquite QB King Davis on Friday night, the evening prior to Louisiana Tech's Junior Day.

"I'm going to the Junior Day with my parents, and I like Tech," said Davis (6-2, 185, 4.58). "Coach (Stan) Eggen is recruiting me, and I most definitely like his personality. The Tech coaches are very positive, and I definitely like the academic part of the school.

"Coach Eggen has been telling me to keep working work and to stay strong. I'm hearing from Tech, of course, as well as SMU, UTEP, and Tulsa."

Davis was taking a break in between events at a track meet Friday evening.

"I high jump and run the 300 meter hurdles," he said. "I finished second in the high jump today. I cleared 6-4. I'm running the 300 later."

Davis couldn't recall his 2010 football statistics, but does have some specific goals in mind for this fall.

"We definitely want to make the playoffs," he said. "We also want to beat DeSoto and Mesquite Horn. Horn is a hometown rival. We're also hometown rivals with Mesquite, but we beat them fairly easily last year."

Davis led his team to an upset victory over Longview last year. The Stallions posted a 5-5 mark in 2010 and narrowly missed the postseason. Longview subsequently reached the Class 5A Division II semifinals.
