Summer: More Important Than Ever

In 2010, Cyril Noland and Vincent Moore took part in the North Louisiana FCA Combine. Their participation helped fuel interest in them from college recruiters.

"Attending these camps was definitely beneficial for me," said Vincent Moore, who eventually earned six scholarship offers. "I decided I was just going to attend as many summer camps as possible in order to get my name out there as much as possible. I believe the most important part of my recruiting process was my summer performances prior to my senior season."

Moore ended up deciding to walk on at Louisiana Tech. Michael Hunter participated in the 2010 combine as a member of Richwood High School. Not long after, Hunter ended up transfering to West Monroe. Hunter was first noticed in the summer before his senior year and eventually signed a scholarship with Indiana.

Tyler Griffin from Caldwell showed off a 40" vertical jump at last year's event. Tyree Hollins from from Carroll ran a 4.42 in the 40 yard dash. Both players ended up signing with Grambling.

This year, FCA is teaming up with the Boys and Girl's Club and they are bringing the event to Ruston. Over 150 players from Arkansas and Louisiana are registered for the event. Nike Sparq will also be there to do all of the testing.

Ruston's Cyril Noland made the short trip over to West Monroe a year ago and performed well. This year, the 2012 prospect has been to Nike Sparq events in Houston and Dallas, as well as the Under Armor Combine in New Orleans. He knows every mile is well worth the trip. Noland dramatically improved his Nike Sparq rating in Dallas and will be in Ruston Saturday to back up his numbers. Noland just missed out on placing in the top 5 overall after posting a 4.6 electronically timed 40 and a 36" vertical jump.

Other top athletes from the area who are signed up to come include Cen'Terio Ford from Farmerville, K.J. Malone from Cedar Creek, Zhakeem Hollidy from Junction City, Quentin Wheeler from Ouachita, Randy Taylor from Parkers Chapel, Trevoin Goins from Richwood, and Kentrell Brice from Ruston.

Several players from Alexandria Senior High, Block, Bolton, Carroll, Neville, Ouachita, Parkway, Richwood, Ruston, West Monroe, and Wossman will also be on hand. Players are scheduled to travel from as far away as Strong High School in Arkanasas, St. Martinville High School, Ringgold High School, Peabody Magnet, St. Mary's, Grant, North Caddo, Ferriday, Cenla Christian, Natchitoches Central, plus several others from Shreveport and Bossier City.

Who will be the next area player to make their name this summer? Saturday in Ruston is their next chance.
