Mandeville RB has first offer

Mandeville features one of the more prolific offenses in Louisiana, and the Skippers will have no problem moving the chains this fall with RB Charles Jones carrying the football.

"Kansas State is the only school that's offered so far," said Mandeville RB Charles Jones. "My coach sent tape to them, and then their recruiter, Coach (Michael) Smith, offered me.

"I'm hearing from a couple of schools in Arkansas, and I'm open to any schools. I just want to play college football."

Last year, Jones rushed for 564 yards and seven touchdowns in Mandeville's wide-open spread offense. He also added 23 receptions for 223 yards with two more TDs. As a sophomore, Jones gained 750 yards on the ground with 10 TDs.

In 2010, the Skippers scored at least 32 points in seven games and reached the first round of the Class 5A playoffs, where they were edged (28-27) by Terrebonne HS (Houma, La.).

"We have high expectations for the 2011 season," said Jones. "Our quarterback, Matt Bergeron, is an excellent leader. He's a good listener and has gotten better each year. He's also my best friend."

Jones also runs track for Mandeville. He ran a 10.85 in the 100 meters at a meet last Friday and also helped the Skippers' 4 X 100 and 4 X 400 relay teams to first place finishes that day.
