"Coach Eggen saw my film and he was impressed. He said for me to keep doing what I've been doing. Tech is telling me that an offer could come during spring practice - or at their summer camp."
Savage likes the possibility of early playing time at Tech.
"I'm excited about Tech," he said. "They had a redshirt freshman at defensive end last year, so I feel like I could come in, be ready to play, and make an impact.
"The only drawback with Tech is playing in the WAC. Some of my games would be at long distances where my parents wouldn't be able to come watch me each week. However, you have to make sacrifices to play D-1 football and that's a sacrifice I'd make. The most important factor is whether I feel comfortable at Tech, and I do feel comfortable there."
For now, Savage is concentrating his efforts in the weight room while he waits for spring training to commence.
"I've been living in the weight room lately," he said. "I've set some new PRs, but I'm not satisfied yet. Once I reach a goal, I set new goals all over again, so I can continue getting bigger and faster.
"My power clean is up to 275 pounds and my present goal on that lift is 315 pounds. That's a football lift. It's all about explosion.
"We don't have a set date for spring training yet, because baseball is still going on. Our baseball coach is also the head football coach, so we have to wait until their season ends."
