Stewart Talks Recruiting

Patterson defensive back Trevon Stewart is a three-star prospect with five offers already under his belt. Read further to learn which schools have the lead for his services. There's one program in particular that stands out, and its identity may surprise you.

"My top three, in order, are Clemson, Arkansas, and Houston," said Trevon Stewart. "I like everything about Clemson. I've been in frequent contact with Coach (Marion) Hobby. In fact, I just got a message from him on Facebook.

"(4-Star LB and teammate) Lorenzo Phillips and I are planning on going to their camp on June 14th through the 17th. Their depth at cornerback is not that deep, and I like that. Lorenzo and I have been talking about Clemson for a few weeks now."

Are Stewart and Phillips set on playing together in college? What about their teammate, WR Jaydrick Declouet (who already holds a handful of offers)?

"Lorenzo and I want to go to the same school for college," said Stewart. "We talked about it with our parents, and they liked the idea. The distance isn't as far as you'd think.

"The drive from Patterson (south-central Louisiana) to Clemson is only one hour more than the drive from Patterson to Fayetteville, Arkansas. It's nine hours to Fayetteville and 10 to Clemson.

"We want this Clemson offer so bad that we would commit on the spot if we get it."

Does Declouet share his teammates' enthusiasm for Clemson?

"We tried to talk to Jaydrick about it, but he wasn't really interested," Stewart explained. "He's not into that idea. His favorites seem to be Nebraska and Southern Miss."

What's the story with Stewart and local program LSU, which signed former Patterson RB Kenny Hilliard this year?

"I hope to get an LSU offer this spring," said Stewart. "Coach (Tommy) Minton (Patterson head coach) said that I should get an LSU offer this spring. I haven't talked to them in awhile, though."

What about Arkansas? Stewart took a recent trip to Fayetteville to watch the Razorbacks' spring game.

"Coach (Willy) Robinson, their defensive coordinator, still hasn't seen my tape yet," said Stewart. "He's been in Indianapolis and so he hasn't been to the office to watch it. However, he's planning to come down here for spring practice and watch me in person."

Tulane is Stewart's most recent offer.

"Coach (Doug) Lichtenberger called over to Lorenzo's house a few days ago and tracked me down," said Stewart. "He told me they're looking for DBs, but that they might recruit me as an athlete (WR).

"I've been surprised with how well Tulane has been recruiting. Also, the fact that they offered shows me that I'm doing good with my academics. I was surprised by the offer."

This fall, Patterson will face Crowley High School in an early-season game that should be well-attended by college recruiters. Patterson has several outstanding prospects on the roster, while Crowley boasts Texas A&M commit Davante' Bourque at running back.
