Thompson to Tulane

St. Charles Catholic (LaPlace, La.) RB Lazedrick Thompson gave a verbal pledge to the Tulane Green Wave late last week...

"A lot of it had to do with education," said Lazedrick Thompson, who committed to the Tulane Green Wave a few days ago. "I want to major in business management and a degree from Tulane will help me, in case I don't get drafted by the NFL.

"Coach Jason Rollins recruited me for Tulane. He's a real cool guy."

Thompson is a tall back in the 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-2 range with a rare blend of size, power and speed. His style immediately reminds of Adrian Peterson.

"I do hear that a lot," said Thompson, when asked about the comparison between himself and the Minnesota Vikings star. "I try to run like Walter Payton and deliver the blow. Since Peterson basically does the same thing, I guess we're all patterning ourselves after the same guy (the late, great Payton)."

St. Charles Catholic moves up to Class 3A this year and that may be a blessing, since the Comets won't have to deal with long-time nemesis John Curtis Christian any longer.

"We're looking to win the championship," said Thompson. "Marcus Hall (quarterback) and Jeffrey Hall (wide receiver) have been playing together since the eighth grade, and La'Jaylin Smith and myself joined them in ninth grade.

"La'Jaylin is a monster out there. He doesn't play around. He'll hit you in a minute. Jeffrey is also going to play defense for us (DB)."

Which other schools are recruiting Thompson?

"I have offers from Colorado, North Texas, Kansas State, Baylor, Southeastern, Memphis, Nicholls State and ULM," he said. "Nicholls offered me the same day that I committed to Tulane. Colorado offered yesterday.

"ULM and Southeastern have been recruiting me the hardest (other than Tulane)."
