"Tech camp the one I'm really waiting on"

The term "great motor" is thrown around frequently, but it's a perfect description of Leonard Washington. The high-energy DT from Edna Karr HS loves the game of football, and he's looking forward to camping with Louisiana Tech this week.

"I was at ULM's camp today (Monday) in New Orleans," said Leonard Washington. "I demolished people out there. Their coaches were impressed. ULM's defensive line coach told me I had good hand placement. They called me over after the camp and wanted to know who I have at the top of my list.

"Today was easy for me. It was a good day. I had the ULM camp from 9 A.M. to 12:30 P.M., and then I went to workouts with our team this evening. We did jump rope, bag drills and lifting. Lot of upper body stuff, which is my favorite."

Later this week, Washington will camp with Louisiana Tech.

"I'm trying to get ready for Tech's camp," he said. "It's at Tad Gormley Stadium, and it's the one I'm really waiting on.

"I'll be the first one there when they open the gates!"

Did any other prospects catch Washington's eye yesterday at the ULM camp?

"Their coaches called certain people over after the camp," he said. "Marques Cheeks from O.P. Walker was one of them. He stood out at the camp. Also, there was a defensive end from Shaw (Stephen Gibson). He's good; stands around 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4.

"Nathan Lewis, the offensive lineman from Warren Easton, also did good."

Washington, who has several offers (including Louisiana Tech and ULM), helped his team to the Class 4A finals last year. The Bulldogs are among his early list of favorites.
