Ball Getting Noticed

Madison Central Defensive Back Shauntez Ball is among several Division One prospects for the Jags this year.

Led by Tobias Singleton (Ole Miss) and Joe Price (Memphis)in the 2011 Class, Madison Central is a regular stop on the recruiting trail for college coaches. The 2012 class will be just as heavily recruited as their older counterparts.

Devon Desper already committed to Mississippi State back in April. Defensive Tackle Maurice Bennett is hearing from a host of teams and already pulled in an offer from Washington State. Bennett's brother Bryon signed with Ole Miss in 2010.

Another name to watch for the Jags is Shauntez Ball. Ball said he is hearing from a few teams so far this summer. "Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, Northwestern State, Memphis, and Alabama State," listed Ball.

Ball talked about what he has been up to this summer. "I went to the Mississippi State camp," he said. "I did good, but I could have done better."

Heading into his senior year, Ball expects to take on more responsibility for his team. "I play corner," he added, "but I play safety now too."

Ball and his teammates will get a chance to showcase their talents in Louisiana this year as they travel two hours down I-20 to take on West Monroe on September 16th. Ball admitted it was a good chance to perform in front of some of the Louisiana schools that are recruiting him. With so many Division One prospects on both teams, college3 scouts from all over should be in attendance.

Check back later in the summer for news on Shauntez and other prospects in Northern Mississippi.
