LaFrance reports a pair of offers

Helen Cox (Harvey, La.) linebacker Royce LaFrance is a punishing 230-pound senior who reports a couple of offers with more expected to arrive soon...

It's a family thing, as far as Royce LaFrance (Helen Cox), Quadry Antoine (Belle Chasse) and Duke Riley (John Curtis Christian) are concerned. The three defenders from southeast Louisiana are all related, and the trio just so happen to be among the state's most vicious hitters.

"Those are my cousins," said LaFrance, who led Cox in both tackles (111) and interceptions (2) last year. "I have offers from North Texas and Arizona. Quadry is committed to Mississippi State, and they're recruiting me hard. I might get an offer from them.

"My top three are Mississippi State, North Texas and Alabama. I like North Texas because they showed the most interest in me from the beginning. I also know Darius Carey, who plays there. I have a really good relationship with Coach (Burton) Burns at Alabama."

LaFrance, who says his next two offers might come from ULM and Southern Miss, has a nasty disposition on the field.

"When I see somebody coming at me, I take offense to it," he explained. "I feel like they think they can run over me. If they come to my side, then I feel like they think I must be scared.

"I move around on defense. I played outside at times last year to help with pass rushing. This year, I expect to play in the middle more often."

Cox went 5-6 last year and reached the first round of the 4A playoffs, where the Cougars were eliminated by eventual state champ Franklinton.

"We have a lot to prove," said LaFrance. "We're in a district with a lot of talent; players such as Quadry and Ryan Brown (Archbishop Shaw). Karr and O.P. Walker seem to be overlooking us. We're disappointed after losing in the first round, and we're pushing each other hard in preparation for the season."
