Washington Lists Top Four

Edna Karr (Algiers, La.) defensive tackle Leonard Washington has several scholarship offers and four programs currently stand out for the metro New Orleans senior...

"Louisiana Tech camp was the best," said Leonard Washington. "Coach (Pierre) Ingram and Coach (Stan) Eggen were so happy to see me. Coach Eggen is always writing me; he sends me something at least every three days. Coach Ingram told me how Tech is a nice place and that I should consider coming there.

"I messed up everybody at the camp in one-on-one drills. I ran right through them."

Washington proceeded to list his current collegiate favorites.

"Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas State and ULM are my top four," he said. "Miami of Ohio has also offered and they signed my teammate from last year, Timothy Johnson.

"After Tech's camp, I went to ULL. Coach (Tim) Rebowe is trying to get me to commit there. He gave me a tour of the campus and said how much he likes my game. He doesn't want me to commit anywhere else but to ULL. Coach Rebowe was one of the first coaches to recruit me, and he's really enthusiastic. Their defensive line coach said I had a great camp and that I have great speed.

"Next, I went to Tulane's camp. I didn't do all that great, but they were my third camp in a row and it's been hot outside."

Washington's next stop could be at Arkansas State.

"Coach Grant Heard really wants me," said Washington. "He said I'll get an offer if I go up there and show my face, so I'll probably do that in July."

Karr, the defending Louisiana Class 4A runner-up, is widely regarded as having the best defensive line in the state. Washington, Darrian Dyson and Gerald Willis are the marquee names on the unit.

The Cougars kick off the season in Texas versus 5A Arlington Bowie, which is led by QB Kolby Listenbee (TCU commit) and RB Russell Hansbrough.
