Louisiana 4A Top 10 Rankings - Week 1

After our preseason No. 1 - the Karr Cougars - dropped two in a row to begin the year, it's time for No. 2 Breaux Bridge to step forward and claim the top spot in Class 4A.

    1. BREAUX BRIDGE (2) -- (1-0) -- Last week, the Tigers defeated 5A No. 5 Westgate, 35-10. Breaux Bridge knocked off Westgate for the second straight year with three-star WR and LSU commit Travin Dural scoring two touchdowns. Senior RB Adrian Menard ran for a 57-yard TD and Ronald Girouard returned a blocked punt 31 yards for another score. This week: 3A-ranked Notre Dame (1-0)

    2. NEVILLE (5) -- (1-0) -- Last week, the Tigers defeated 5A Ruston, 42-6. Jamond Collins, a transfer from crosstown program Carroll, returned a punt 55 yards for a TD. Salarrious and Kyron Jones each rushed for scores, and junior QB John Diarse found Brandon Walker on a 32-yard TD pass. Ricky Wyatt (pictured below) was very active and productive from his inside linebacker slot. This week: Woodlawn-Shreveport (0-1)

    3. O.P. WALKER (6) -- (1-0) -- Last week, the Chargers defeated Carver, 32-12. Lyn Clark and Marques Cheeks each had sacks, while Anthony Scott (RB) and Raymond Jackson (WR) performed well on the offensive side of the ball. Four-star DB and LSU commit Dwayne Thomas anchors the ssecondary. This week: at 5A L.W. Higgins (1-0)

    4. ARCHBISHOP SHAW (7) -- (0-0) -- Last week, the Eagles didn't get an opportunity to reclaim the prized Megaphone from East Bank rival Archbishop Rummel after Tropical Storm Lee forced the cancellation of their game. Sophomore QB Quentin Gibson, younger brother of senior DE Stephen Gibson, was on fire (9-of-11, 244 yards, 4 TDs) in jamboree wins over West Bank foes Helen Cox and John Ehret. This week: at 2A Fisher (0-0)

    5. ST. THOMAS MORE (NR) -- (1-0) -- Last week, the Cougars beat 5A Sulphur, 44-0. I whiffed on not ranking STM in the preseason; the Cougars don't appear to have missed a beat, despite losing talented seniors such as Evan Tatford and Sam Scofield (both at Tulane). RBs Matt Flores and Jon Juneau combined for rush for three TDs in week one. This week: vs. 5A Central (1-0)

    6. LUTCHER (4) -- (0-1) -- Last week, the Bulldogs lost to 5A No. 4. Dutchtown, 32-8. Three-star RB Daniel Taylor had a brilliant night against one of the state's best defenses, gaining 180 yards with a TD (and a two-point conversion). CB Jordan Batiste (Ole Miss commit) had a couple of big hits, including an impressive solo stop on Dutchtown five-star S/RB Landon Collins. This week: McDonogh #35 (1-0)

    7. BASTROP (9) -- (1-0) -- Last week, the Rams defeated 6A Greenville-Weston (Ms.), 48-29. Four-star prospect Denzel Devall collected 12 tackles and caught a TD pass. Ditavious Ridgell (5-9, 175, Sr.) connected on 26-of-38 passes for 374 yards and five TDs, including a 99-yarder to sophomore Jamari Payne. This week: 5A Ruston (0-1)

    8. MCDONOGH #35 (NR) -- (1-0) -- On Monday, the Roneagles defeated then-No. 3 St. Augustine, 50-42. Junior Carlos Henderson - younger brother of Utah WR Charles Henderson - shredded St. Aug's defense for 274 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Kedrick Banks returned a kickoff for a TD for #35, which also features Arkansas State commit Jyron Walters at QB. This week: at Lutcher

    9. ST. AUGUSTINE (3) -- (0-1) -- On Monday, the Purple Knights lost to McDonogh #35, 50-42. St. Aug is currently without the services of sophomore RB Leonard Fournette (shoulder), but the Purple Knights still managed to score plenty of points. Sophomore QB Toi Jenkins threw for 214 yards and four TDs and UL-Lafayette commit Dominick Jones intercepted a pass. This week: 5A Brother Martin (1-0)

    10. TEURLINGS CATHOLIC (10) -- (1-0) -- Last week, the Rebels defeated 2A Catholic-New Iberia, 14-13. QB Dshaie Landor ran for 69 yards and Blair Lormand plunged into the end zone from a yard out for Teurlings, which rallied from a 10-0 deficit. Nick Stelly returned a interception for a TD. This week: at Alexandria Senior High (0-1)
