Bulldog Offseason Begins

Louisiana Tech may have finished 6-24 and 3-13 in the WAC this season, but that does not mean next year won't be better.

Not only will next year be better, it will be much better. All year long fans have watched Kyle Gibson turn into an All-WAC player, despite his not being named to the All-WAC team. Gibson fought through double teams, through playing out of position, and still finished seventh in the conference scoring race.

While Gibson was improving right in front of our eyes, other players grew as well. What looked like a thrown together group of undersized guys finished the year working hard on defense and giving WAC teams all they could handle. Fans could really see the progress the team was making throughout the year, especially the second half. There is no doubt Coach Kerry Rupp's reputation of being a top teacher is legit after seeing him mold this group in such a short time.

With transfers Magnum Rolle, Kenny Cooper, and Jamel White sitting out the year with highly touted freshman Olu Ashaolu, Tech was known to have help on the way. Add 6'11" Shawn Oliverson, who enrolled for the spring quarter, and you have quite an added punch to the lineup for next season.

Rumors circulate around Ruston about who may or may not be back and who may be on the way. It is too early to tell if there is any fire to that smoke, but you can be sure of one thing: Louisiana Tech basketball is on the rise.
