G.J. Kinne pondering future?

G.J. Kinne threw for 4,255 yards and 42 touchdowns for Canton High School in 2005. After finishing his high school career in Gilmer, TX, Kinne signed with the University of Texas. Kinne was the Scout.com 38th ranked quarterback in the nation in 2006.

Houston Tuminello caught 89 passes from Kinne in 2005 for 1207 yards and 18 touchdowns. Tuminello also finished his career in Gilmer,a year after Kinne had moved on to Austin.

Could the record breaking duo from the Lone Star State finally get back together?

Kinne is fighting for the third team quarterback spot this spring with the Longhorns after red-shirting in 2007. Texas Head Coach Mack Brown also has a commitment from the 2009 Scout.com #4 quarterback in the country, Garrett Gilbert, from Lake Travis High School in Austin. (Ironically, Kinne's father, Gary, recently applied for the head coaching job at Lake Travis. Kinne was the Head Coach at Canton in 2005 and was most recently the linebackers coach at Baylor.)

Tuminello caught 73 passes for 1,017 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior at Gilmer. Houston had looked into playing for Gilmer as a junior, but he would have had to sit out a year. Instead, Tuminello spent a year at Colleyville Covenant, racking up over 2,000 receiving yards, before transferring to Gilmer. The 6'0" wide receiver signed with Louisiana Tech and brings a reputation for catching everything that is thrown his way.

It's too early to tell if Kinne and Tuminello will ever get back together. Kinne is still in school at Texas and the Longhorns wrap up spring football on Saturday. If Kinne does decide to transfer to another school this summer in hopes of competing for a starting job, you can be sure that his friend Houston Tuminello play a factor in his decision.
