Update on Lucas, Tyler

It sounds like the coaching staff at Higgins wants to make sure their best players are on the field as much as possible.

Louisiana Tech signee Shakeil Lucas is one of the top defensive ends in Louisiana. Higgins Head Coach Wayne Meyers isn't letting that stop him from using him on offense. "He's up to 250 pounds," said Meyers, "and we are going to use him some at tight end to help with blocking."

Lucas plays defensive tackle for Coach Meyers this year in a three-man front. Meyers explained, "He played defensive end for us last year and that is where he will most likely play in college. You can call him a defensive end in our three-man front, but if you see us as more of a five-man front, (with the outside linebackers coming up) then you can call him a tackle."

When Lucas does end up on offense, he will surely line up next to big Ashton Tyler. Tyler is 6'7" and 270 pounds, making him one of the tallest offensive tackles in the state. He has offers from South Alabama and ULL. His brother, Kermit Tyler, plays for Ole Miss. "Ashton comes off the ball well. He's a good worker for us," mentioned Coach Meyers.

Higgins takes on Destrehan this week, in a game that features some of the top prospects in the State.
