Louisiana Tech Looks at Top 2011 Point Guards

Louisiana Tech is already recruiting players from the 2011 class. Two of the top players in the country have interest in playing for the Bulldogs.

Myck Kabongo was in Ruston this spring for the Ruston Showcase. He is lightnng fast and he turned heads all weekend with his electric play.

Kabongo's coach with the Grassroots Canada Elite AAU program, Ro Russell, said Kabongo has several big offers already. "He has offers from Louisiana Tech, Rutgers, Texas, and Wake Forrest," said Russell. "Arkansas, Villinova, USC, UConn, and Memphis are all recruiting him too."

Kabongo is ranked by Scout.com as the #3 point guard in the 2011 class.

Marquis Rankin, from Vance High School in Charlotte, NC is the #4 point guard in the 2011 class.

Lamar Rankin, Marquis Rankin's father, said Marquis has two offers already and more are on the way.

"He has offers from Wake Forest and Louisiana Tech," said Mr. Rankin. "Florida and Virginia Tech are both very interested and could be offering soon." Mr. Rankin said that South Carolina and Auburn are also recruiting Marquis.

"Wake Forest is about an hour and ten minutes from our house," added Mr. Rankin. "We don't know a lot about Louisiana Tech except what we get in the mail, but we want to go visit them too."

Rankin plays for the United Celtics AAU program. Julian Miller coaches Rankin and the United Celtics.

"Marquis will be a great player," said Miller. "He is going to keep working hard and keep his grades strong. He loves to play and he loves to work on his game. Marquis speaks highly of Louisiana Tech and all of the schools that are recruiting him."

Kabongo and Rankin both made names for themselves this summer with their superior point guard play. They still have a long way to go in the recruiting process, but Louisiana Tech has shown that they are going to be a player on the national scene.
