Tech's Porter Receives WAC Award

Oct. 20, 2008 RUSTON—Louisiana Tech junior running back Daniel Porter has been named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bulldogs 46-14 win over Idaho this weekend.

Porter, a junior from Baton Rouge, La. (Istrouma), rushed for a season-high 145 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. Porter, who also added one catch for six yards, scored on runs of 1 and 17 yards. Tech gained a total of 364 yards on the ground, the third most by a WAC team this year and the fifth most in school history.

Porter was chosen over quarterback Kellen Moore, Boise State; running back Vai Taua, Nevada; and tailback Yonus Davis, San Jose State. This is his first such honor and the first time a Tech player has been named WAC Offensive Player of the Week this season

Boise State cornerback Brandyn Thompson and Boise State placekicker/punter Kyle Brotzman were named the Western Athletic Conference Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.

Louisiana Tech sophomore defensive tackle Mason Hitt received a nomination for defensive player of the week and junior running back Myke Compton received a nomination for special teams player of the week.
