Tech in good shape with Porter

One of the top unsigned players in the country will decide between Louisiana Tech and SMU.

Rufus Porter was sure to get a lot of attention after returning an interception 98 yards for a touchdown in Destrehan's win over West Monroe in the 5A State Championship game.

"Yes he has, honey," said Anita Porter. "Yes he has. It's different than I expected. We are excited about everything."

"Right now, we are only looking at Louisiana Tech and SMU," said Mrs. Porter. "He won't make any visits without me."

Anita Porter has been a helpful guide for Rufus through this process. She gained experience when her daughter was recruited to play volleyball at Nicholls State. "The process was not the same at all," explained Mrs. Porter.

Mrs. Porter said both schools have good things going for them. "The academics at Tech are impressive," she said. "They keep up with the boys. It's not just all about football."

"SMU is a good school," she added. "June Jones always puts on a show."

Rufus does not have official visits set up yet. Check back with to find out when he does set those dates.
