LA Tech Announces 2009 Football Schedule

RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech will play six bowl teams and three nationally-televised games in 2009 as the Western Athletic Conference released the league schedule on Wednesday. Head coach Derek Dooley and the 2008 Independence Bowl champions will play twice on ESPN2 and once on ESPN, including hosting two nationally-televised home games.

It will mark the first time that Tech has ever hosted two nationally-televised games in the same season.

Tech returns 17 starters from last year's team that posted an 8-5 record, including a 17-10 win over Northern Illinois in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport.

The Bulldogs host Hawaii (2008 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl participant) on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in a game set for ESPN2 and also host defending WAC champion and Poinsettia Bowl participant Boise State on Friday, Nov. 6 on ESPN2.

"It is a tribute to the progress of our program that ESPN has chosen to televise our team on three occasions," Dooley said. "However, playing two SEC teams on the road and six bowl teams is a reminder of how much work is ahead of us."

Tech's third nationally-televised game will be against Humanitarian Bowl participant Nevada in Reno on Friday, Oct. 9 in a game set for ESPN. Dooley and Co. open the season Sept. 5 at Auburn and then travel to Annapolis, Maryland the following weekend to face the Midshipmen of the US Naval Academy, who participated in the Eagle Bank Bowl last season.

Tech hosts Nicholls State Sept. 19 at Joe Aillet Stadium in the home opener, the first chance Bulldog fans will have to experience the facilities newest addition -- a 1,485 square foot high definition video display board. The board will be the largest in the Western Athletic Conference.

The Bulldogs will then host the Warriors Sept. 30 before traveling to Reno to face the Wolf Pack Oct. 9.

Tech hosts New Mexico State Oct. 17 for homecoming and then goes on the road for back-to-back games at Utah State Oct. 24 and Idaho Oct. 31.

After hosting Boise State Nov. 6, Tech travels to Baton Rouge to face SEC foe and Chick-Fil-A Bowl champion LSU Nov. 14 in Tiger Stadium. Tech then plays in the Battle of the Bulldogs Nov. 21 at Fresno State, a team that played in the New Mexico Bowl.

Tech has a bye weekend on the Saturday following Thanksgiving before finishing its regular season at home against San Jose State on Dec. 5.

In addition to the three nationally-televised games, LA Tech could still have additional home and away games televised by ERT and/or ESPNU.
