Louisiana Select Reloaded

The 2010 class in Louisiana is loaded with talented wing players. Most of them are playing for Mike Theus and his Louisiana Select team this year.

Langston Galloway might be the best player in the state. Matt Derenbecker was named the Gatorade Player of the Year. Brian Williams was named the 4 Player of the Year. All three have LSU offers and all three will suit up for Louisiana Select this year.

If Head Coach Mike Theus was worried about replacing Eddie Ludwig and Kourtney Roberson inside, he didn't show it. He just loaded up with the best wing players in the State. Just look at the First Team All State 1A team. Ludwig and Roberson were joined on the first team with Derenbecker (a teammate of Ludwig's at Country Day), Galloway, and Patrick Robinson, who like Galloway, is a junior at Christian Life Academy.

Theus said Galloway, Derenbecker, and Williams are certainly three of the best players in Louisiana. "I would put two other names in the top 5 with them," he explained. "Markel Brown from Peabody and Cedric Jenkins from Reserve Christian." Brown joined Williams on the All-State 4A team, while Jenkins was the MVP of Class C.

Two Shreveport area players are also being mentioned as being in the same talent level as the above players. Yondarius Johnson from Plain Dealing and Cordarius Johnson from Red River are also two of the top wing players in the 2010 class. Cordarius made 2nd Team in Class 2A and he was joined by John Isaac from Pickering. Isaac might be the best player in the 2011 class and plays on Louisiana Select's 16U team. Two other top players on Coach Theus' 16U team are Jalan West from Bossier High and 6'8" Matt Moss from Anacoco. "Moss plays like Dirk Nowitzki," added Theus. "He can really handle the ball for a big guy and he can shoot it."

Thomas Williams, or T.J. for short, from Jonesboro Hodge is the big man for Coach Theus. The 6'7" Williams has a large frame and can really control the boards inside. He and Richwood's LaDon Carter are considered two of the top power forwards in the state. Out of all the players mentioned above, only Carter and Cordarius Johnson aren't on Louisiana Select's roster this year. I guess they can't get them all, but they came pretty close!

Other top players from the State who will suit up for Coach Theus include Ron McGee from Istrouma, and Nic Jacobs and Dantrell Thomas from Many.

While LSU has offers out to three players so far, they are looking at others. Louisiana Tech and Tulane are also in the mix. Tech has been to see Corarius Johnson and they are in the hunt for Markel Brown. Tulane has offered the same players that LSU has as well as Cedric Jenkins.

Louisiana Select will have their 2009 Fall Exposure Camp at Louisiana Tech again this year. it is se to be September 5th or the last week in August. Stay Tuned.
