Roberts Selected to Rimington Trophy List

May 20, 2009 RUSTON—Louisiana Tech junior center Lon Roberts was selected to the 2009 Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List Wednesday afternoon.

The Remington Trophy is awarded to the nation's best center every year.

While there are multiple All-America football teams selected annually, the Rimington Trophy committee uses the following All-American Teams to determine a winner: American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America. The center with the most first team votes will be awarded the winner and will be honored at Rimington Trophy Presentation banquet at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln , Nebraska , on January 16, 2009.

Roberts started all 13 games at center for the Bulldogs in 2009 and has 25 consecutive starts at center.

The Kilgore, Texas native helped Tech's rushing offense to a top 25 ranking and helped pave the way for Tech running back Daniel Porter to become the eighth Louisiana Tech player to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.

Roberts was the only player from a Louisiana school selected to the Watch List this year and was one of five players from the Western Athletic Conference selected. The WAC had the second most players selected to the List with five, just one behind the South Eastern Conference who had the most.
