Michael Hunter Talks Louisiana Tech

Michael Hunter decided to change schools over the summer. He is now in the process of looking for a school that he can bring his football talent to for the next four years.

Michael Hunter has had a busy summer. Not only does he have the normal camp schedule of a high school football player, Michael had to make a tough decision. The star defensive back spent the last two years playing for Richwood High School where his father, Michael Hunter, Sr. was an assistant basketball coach.

When Coach Hunter was hired to be the Head Basketball Coach at West Monroe High School, Michael had a decision to make. Does he stay at Richwood and finish his high school career with his teammates or does he follow his dad to West Monroe? Coach Hunter had previously been an assistant at West Monroe High and they still live in West Monroe. Michael played junior high football in West Monroe and had plenty of friends on the Rebel's team.

"My first reaction, I was sad," said Michael, "because I was leaving my friends. Since I live here already and I knew everybody, it made it easier. It's been fun so far. We're going to Hoover from the 22nd through the 24th for 7 on 7."

Hunter said he and his teammates, including Defensive Tackle Chuck Hunter had planned on attending Junior Day at Louisiana Tech on the 24th, but they will be traveling back from Hoover that night. Michael said he was able to stop by Tech's campus recently.

"I stopped by, explained Hunter. "Coach Likens was out of town, but I got to meet Coach Dykes and Coach Curtis. They were cool and laid back. We got to watch film and talk about how they plan to play on defense. I've been getting a lot of attention from Louisiana Tech." Hunter talked about other schools that are showing interest. "I get a lot of mail from Baylor and Mississippi State," he added. "ULM sends a lot of mail. I'm starting to get attention from Tulane. They had a camp at Neville and I had a good camp."

Michael Hunter has offers from ULM, Southeastern, McNeese, and Baylor. Expect that list to grow by the beginning of the season.
