Gray talks shop

Riccie Gray of Delhi Charter averaged more than seven yards a carry and recorded almost 80 tackles as a junior. He's drawing interest from Louisiana Tech, as well as several other programs. Read further to learn more about Gray, who also had an excellent showing at the FCA Combine this summer.

"Everything is going good," said Riccie Gray, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound running back/linebacker for Delhi Charter, which is one of the premier small-school programs in Louisiana. "Our linemen are doing good, despite some changes there. We lost a few linemen to graduation.

"I thought that I did really good in our scrimmage against Farmerville - better than last year. Our line held their blocks and I hit the hole. I averaged 10-to-12 yards per carry in the scrimmage.

"I was only in for two-or-three plays on defense. This season, on third-and-long, we have a package where I'll try to step in and do the job."

Gray hasn't received his first scholarship offer yet, but he's receiving interest from several schools, including Louisiana Tech.

"I've been talking to Coach (Rob) Likens from Tech, and he was basically asking how things are coming along," said Gray, who rushed for 914 yards and six TDs on 126 carries last season. "He was just asking how everything is going for me. When the season gets here, I hope they give me an offer."

Gray, who is being recruited by some schools as a linebacker, had 79 tackles with nine sacks in 2009. Over the summer, he was timed at 4.61 in the 40-yard dash at the FCA Combine.

Delhi Charter opens its season this week against 4A Franklin Parish of Winnsboro.
