Recruiting Coordinator Reed Stringer and Coach Hudspeth are recruiting a number of quality skilled athletes on the offensive side of the ball and Dutchtown running back Effrem Reed sits right at the top of the list. The "5-9", 188-pound First Team 5A All-State back ran for over 1,900 yards and 32 touchdowns this season for the Griffins, who finished 12-1 with a loss in the state playoffs to Westgate High. Reed attended the Cajun summer prospect camp and had a chance to look at the football facilities.
"I was there during the summer and had a chance to look around," Reed stated. "We worked out in the indoor practice facility and after the camp we toured the football field, locker room and the weight room. ULL does have nice facilities and I like the campus as well."
With Coach Hudspeth at the helm of the Cajun program, what has Reed heard about the changes taken place?
"I know his a reputation as an offensive mind," said Effrem. "Coach Rebowe is recruiting me and he told me that I'm the number one running back on their board. I've also heard that Terrance Broadway has transferred in from Houston and in Coach Hudspeth's offense; ULL is going to be really exciting to watch this year. I'm excited about setting my visit date on January 21st and getting the chance to talk more about the offense they are going to run. Coach Rebowe said they would come by Friday this week and visit with me before I head down there on a visit."
With interest from UL, Louisiana Tech, SMU and Southeastern, what type of offense best suites Effrem Reed?
"I've lined up in the I-formation, Pro-Set and the spread," Reed stated. "I can run the ball between the tackles and outside; I have no problem catching the ball out of the backfield or lining up in the slot. So I think I'm versatile enough to play in different offenses."
What other visits will Reed take in January?
"Well, I'm waiting on Louisiana Tech and SMU to get back to me on dates," said Effrem. The coaches have my film and test scores and both said they would get back to me soon. Southeastern also has talked to me about a visit, but I don't know if I'm going to take that visit right now."
Effrem Reed is retaking one coarse from his junior year, but has already scored a 21 on the ACT Exam.
