Junior athlete Kevin Fouquier out of Comeaux High in Lafayette attended UL's junior day Saturday morning. Kevin was accompanied by former Ragin'Cajun lineman Ronald "Cheese" Gunner and wasn't sure what to expect from the new staff at UL. After Fouquier sat down and registered, he was soon greeted by head coach Mark Hudspeth whom proceeded to offer him as an athlete. The Cajuns offer was his first this spring, but that would soon change later in the day.
"Coach Hudspeth told me that he wanted to offer me in front of the staff and let me know they have a place for me at UL," Kevin stated. "I didn't know what to expect and was surprised that he offered right away, but it was great to get the offer. Coach said they were offering me as an athlete and that he wanted me to come in for camp later this summer."
Fouquier is very familiar with the Ragin'Cajun program, as his father Kevin Fouquier Sr. was the defensive coordinator under former head coach Ricky Bustle through the 2010 season.
The "6-4", 210-pound junior also traveled down I-10 to Lake Charles to watch the McNeese State Cowboys practice Saturday afternoon after the UL junior day event and picked a second offer from Coach Tim Leger.
"We went to watch McNeese after leaving UL to watch them practice," Fouquier said. "Coach Leger offered me at quarterback and told me they have me as their number one on their recruiting board. Coach Viator will call me later tonight, he could not talked to me while we were there watching practice and looking at the new field house."
Kevin Fouquier has now attended junior days at UL, LSU and Texas A&M, what's next this summer?
"I'm to the Elite 10 camp in Georgia and LSU, Texas A&M, UL, Mississippi State camps this summer," Kevin stated. I'll look at any other camps of programs that recruit me as the come up this summer. Coach Hurley Brown asked me to come by and take a look at Miami this summer. That works out well for me because I'm going down to Florida to visit a good friend and I will have some time to check things out.
Kevin Fouquier has already taken the ACT and scored a 24 on the test, while maintaining a 3.5 GPA in his core. Kevin will be mid-term graduate in December and will enroll in college in January 2012.
